The library is an understated, architecturally beautiful room with original stained and leaded glass windows, exposed brick and beams, high ceilings, and reproduction period lighting. It is a visually inspiring space to study and research in, in the heart of the building.
The collection holds about 11,000 titles which are continually being added to. The goal is to increase the collection to 20,000 titles. Thanks to the commitment of the DC Public Schools and our school’s administration, Eastern’s library has an impressive collection of resources which include: print, audio, e-books, periodicals, DVD’s, and electronic databases. Please refer to the library’s online catalog at http://dcps.follettdestiny.com.

The Library Media Center is open from 8:45am-3:30pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. It is open from 8:45am-4:30pm on Tuesday and Thursday. A pass is required during class time. Lunch time passes are distributed by Mrs. Dodsworth.
The use of computers in the library is on a first-come, first-served basis. Always, students completing school work take priority. Computers are not to be used for non-academic purposes like gaming. Mrs. Dodsworth reserves the right to remove a student from a computer if the technology is not being used appropriately.
The purpose of Eastern’s library is to support and supplement classroom learning activities with appropriate instruction, services, and physical resources. To this end, during class time, use of the library is open to individual students or groups of students who have a pass signed by a faculty member. Eastern’s library is a quiet space for independent reading, research, and study. The library has study tables and computer workstations to support about 50 students. In addition, the library is used for academic meetings, small or large group instruction by a teacher or the librarian, literacy based programs and clubs, and media-driven workshops/seminars for students, faculty, and staff.
Currently enrolled Eastern students are entitled to borrow materials from the Library Media Center. Borrowers with overdue materials are not allowed to check out additional items. Students are limited to a maximum check out of five (5) books. In addition, Eastern faculty and staff have borrowing privileges.
