At Eastern Senior High School, we are committed to our mission of providing an engaging, college preparatory experience for all students. We recognize that Eastern students have a wide range of abilities and interests, and our goal is to ensure that students are provided with high-level and well-rounded academics that will prepare them to serve as innovative, inclusive global leaders.
The Accelerated Cohort at Eastern (ACE) is designed specifically for students who have the motivation and habits of mind to meet above-grade level academic standards. The mission of this program is to provide a rigorous academic experience for students who have demonstrated high achievement across content areas in middle school and would like to begin exploring our more advanced curriculum and content in their ninth grade year. ACE students stand ready to make a commitment to their education and the culture of scholarship at Eastern Senior High School. ACE fosters student preparedness for Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses in Grades 10-12. ACE maximizes students’ learning experiences and their opportunities for admission to competitive colleges and universities.
In addition to the DCPS graduation requirements, ACE students will:
- Participate in a family orientation prior to acceptance into the program.
- Maintain a 3.0 Grade Point Average each quarter.
- Complete subject-specific summer assignments/readings.
- Participate in freshmen orientation
- Participate in at least one extracurricular activity/sport each year.
- Complete 150 total community service hours.
- Apply and interview for summer academic experiences on college campuses after freshman year (Eastern staff will support students through this application process).

When is the application deadline and when will I hear back about my status?
ACE has a rolling admission with a priority deadline of 2/1/2017. The earlier you submit your application, the sooner you know whether or not you are accepted. We may still consider your application after the priority deadline, but there are no guarantees that space will still be available. Please ensure that your completed application is submitted by the deadlines. You will receive a response within four weeks of your submission date.
How many seats is Eastern offering in the ACE program?
There are 25 available seats in ACE for the 2017-2018 school year.
Can I apply to ACE through the DCPS High School Application?
No. The ACE application is only available here.
In addition to ACE, can I enroll in Health and Medical Sciences Academy and/or BUILD courses?
No. Although you may apply to all three programs, you will only be permitted to enroll in one program.
Who is teaching ACE courses?
Students will share a team of educators that typically teach upperclassmen in advanced level courses such as Honors, AP, and IB.
Does enrolling in ACE guarantee my child admission into proposed International Baccalaureate (IB) in grades 11 and 12 and Advanced Placement (AP) classes in grades 10-12?
No. A student who participates in ACE will have the necessary content-knowledge and relevant background to be successful in IB or AP classes; however, participation in ACE is not the sole indicator of future success in IB or AP.
