Eastern Senior High School aims to be the top performing comprehensive (non-application) high school in DC Public Schools by 2020.

Our Mission and Vision

Eastern Senior High School provides engaging, college preparatory coursework and extracurricular learning experiences that ensure all students graduate with the content knowledge, character, and confidence to serve as innovative, inclusive global leaders.

Our students, with support from outstanding teachers and a diverse set of community partners, built upon rich traditions and set a course of excellence on our newly restored, state-of-the-art campus.

You can view a draft of Eastern’s SY2018-19 Comprehensive School Plan to learn more about our school goals in several focus areas, including literacy, math, social emotional learning (SEL) & attendance and graduation & post secondary planning.

International Baccalaureate at Eastern

The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. To this end, the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programs of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programs encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

We take pride in our community involvement, teaching our students the value of working together.

Eastern by the numbers…

Sah Brown

Sah Brown Principal

I am delighted to serve as the principal of Eastern High School! I have served students, families and staff in Washington, DC for 11 years.  Last year I served as the interim principal at Roosevelt High School @ MacFarland where we increased our Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) scores in ELA from zero to seven percent; and prior to that I was an assistant principal at Cardozo Education Campus. In my first year leading the 9th grade academy at Cardozo our promotion rate increased by 25 percent. I have extensive experience leading in various settings having been an assistant principal, special education coordinator and a special education teacher.  I began my education career as a DC Teaching Fellow, and hold a bachelor’s degree in political science from Lehigh University, and master’s degrees in special education and educational administration from Trinity Washington University.

Our staff is dedicated to providing engaging learning opportunities and assisting our students in reaching their dreams.  We believe education is a shared responsibility and a successful school depends on everyone. As a staff, we are working to ensure each class will challenge your students academically and help further his or her social development. This year, we are focused on deepening our partnership with our feeder schools, teacher collaboration and common core aligned instruction.

Please feel free to reach out to me at (202)698-4500 or at sah.brown@dc.gov with any questions or concerns you may have.  We encourage and value parental involvement and believe that forging a strong relationship between the school and home is beneficial to student performance and academic growth.  I am confident, that together, we can build on the strong Eastern tradition and make Eastern High School an even better place for our Ramblers to learn and grow.
